Mr Alvin Chung (Vice Principal) and Ms Yashal Farooq (English Teacher) from Lions Clubs International Ho Tak Sum Primary School shared their school's journey of integrating customised GenAI chatbots into English learning during their 8th eTEACHERS Roundtable seminar. They introduced an eight-step change model for AI adoption, starting with creating a sense of urgency and forming a dedicated team. Their approach focused on solving existing English learning challenges – particularly student motivation and proficiency – while supporting teachers through trial and error rather than monitoring or replacing them.
The group demonstrated two main AI applications: School AI for lesson planning and student performance tracking, and Poe for creating interactive tools such as storybooks, vocabulary games, and writing workshops. They also highlighted some important planning considerations such as cost, classroom implementation, teacher training, and parental guidance. The message they delivered was a familiar theme of the Roundtable: AI is not replacing teachers – it is empowering them!
