How can Artificial Intelligence (AI) empower students to take charge of their own English language learning journey? That was the central question explored by Mr Denis Wong, Lecturer at the Department of English Language Education, in his breakout session at the 7th ELE Roundtable.
Titled "Learning to Learn in the Era of AI: Enhancing Self-directed English Learning with AI," Mr Wong's presentation provided a clear, practical framework for integrating AI tools into the core stages of self-directed learning (SDL): Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Improvement (Reflection). He demonstrated how familiar tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Microsoft Teams’ Reading and Speaking Progress features can be strategically used to help students set personalized goals, receive real-time feedback, and develop lifelong learning skills.
